3 Tips for New Travel-preneurs

"We travel, some of us forever, to seek other states, other lives, other souls" - Anais Nin #SurgeNation

Travel is a $8.1 Trillion industry with a countless number of niche markets and specialities. For new (and even veteran) travel-preneurs navigating the landscape can be daunting. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed take a deep breath  and remember – Why YOU love travel.

The Travel Talk hosts have compiled their Top 3 Tips for the New Travel-preneur.

  • Concentrate on 1-Niche Market – Remembering why you love to travel can help you narrow down your niche market. Most likely there is a large population of travelers who share your passion. If they share your passion, you have identified your customer demographic. For example, if you love all things Disney you may want to become a Certified Disney Specialist. Through Disney’s travel agent portal you have the option of taking several certification courses to learn how to sell vacations, cruises, world adventures, etc.
  • Become Familiar with your Booking Engine – Most booking engines provide travel agents with a wealth of resources, marketing materials, update-to-date itineraries, and special offers. Travel Talk hosts, Jake Culbertson recommends logging into daily. While host Doreen Wong recalls going through the process of setting up practice groups through Princess Cruise’s OneSource portal.
  • Talk about your Business – Travel tends to be a referral base business so it is important to share with your family, friends, colleagues and associates. Host Dawn Barraco encourages all travel agents to utilize the 3 modes of marketing – Mass Marketing, Direct Marketing and especially Social Influence Marketing (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Periscope). Dawn and Doreen host monthly webinars on how to maximize your travel business and build a loyal clientele basis for your brand using social media.

Be sure to subscribe to the blog for additional posts from the hosts as well as catch up on past Travel Talk Show topics. Our goal is to become a resource for you; connecting you to experienced travel-preneurs in specific fields.

Enjoy!

Have you heard of the new social media platform owned by Twitter called Periscope that is taking the internet by storm gaining 1 million users in just 10-days? In comparison, it took social media giant Facebook a month to reach 1 million.

So what is it?

Periscope is a mobile app that allows users to “Live Stream” anytime anywhere from a smartphone. It also enables the ‘scoper’ to engage with the audience in real-time during the broadcast. The app also has integrated a sharing feature so viewers can invite their Periscope and Twitter followers. How does this apply to Travel? Periscope has the potential to virtually boost tourism by sharing local hangouts or must see spots. One of the platform’s early adopters is Orion who scopes around London giving viewers daily virtual vacations. Learn from Orion how you can use the platform to promote travel.

There are many reasons why those with a wanderlust spirit love to travel. For the co-hosts of Travel Talk it is to marvel at the natural beauty, to experience local cuisine and immerse themself into the culture and history of a particular destination. However, pollution, plastics, toxins, chemicals and poaching are having devastating effects on our eco-system. For example, research now suggests the chemical oxybenzone found in most sunscreen causes coral bleaching.

Los Angeles native Tiffany Paige is the host of “Green with Tiffany” a blog and webisode series educating people on how they can make simple modifications to their daily routine to reduce their carbon footprint. Ms. Paige will share simple eco-friendly travel tips we can all implement.

October 14, 2015 – Duane Vancil

10.14.15-DuaneVancilTravel, Traditions and Memories.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) each year an estimated 14 million people around the world learn they have some form of cancer. He/She is someone’s son, daughter, husband, wife, father, mother, brother, sister, cousin, uncle, aunt, grandfather, grandmother and friend. Once the diagnosis is received life because a whirlwind of doctors’ appointment, treatments, co-pays, and care management.

Duane Vancil joins the Travel Talk hosts to share the importance of creating memories during this time and the purpose of the Jennifer Wynn Vancil Cancer Foundation, named in honor of his wife.

While this foundation is named in honor of my wife it is meant to be so much more. It is to be a vehicle to help as many families as possible, to allow families to enjoy a well deserved break from cancer; to receive a cool glass of water in the middle of their desert that is cluttered with surgeries, trials, treatments, doctor visits and mounting medical bills in addition to the responsibilities of parenting and work. However, for those of you who are not familiar with “the story” of Jennifer, you can go to www.jennifervancil.com. But rest assured that this foundation is about the thousands of stories that we, together, will help make as we help families build memories that will last for a lifetime! Have a memory making day.
